Resident card

  • The residents card is issued to the mid- to long-term residents when granted permission pertaining to residence, such as landing permission, change permission of visa status and permission for extension of the period of stay.
  • Basically, the same romaji should be used for the names indicated in the resident card and passport. For the Chinese and South Korean people whose names of the Certificate of Alien Registration are indicated in Chinese characters, they can write both names of romaji and Chinese characters together, however, Japanese kanji should be used for the Chinese characters when written together.
  • The "popular name" shown in the previous Certificate of Alien Registration is not shown on the resident card.
  • You must always carry the resident card in the same way as the Certificate of Alien Registration.

*The residence card has an "expiration date".
Table 1 shows the expiration date of the resident card.
